To cope with the “12/12” online shopping spree, official departments including Customs, CIQ and Hainan Electronic Port instituted a three-shift, round-the-clock working system to meet the massive spike in demand for storage and rapid clearances of goods demanded by e-commerce companies at such peak times.

A statement released by Haikou IFTZ reveals that cross-border e-commerce companies began preparations for “12/12” immediately following the “11/11” bonanza (China’s “Black Friday”). Also revealed was a notable shift in the consumer demographic during “12/12” compared with “11/11” – during the earlier sales, most buyers were from the mainland, whilst “12/12” saw provincial consumers become the majority; a fact which has caused e-commerce companies to pay increased attention to the local market.

In order to meet consumer demand for increasing volumes of high-quality imported products, continuous support will be given to those 15 cross-border e-commerce companies already established within the Haikou IFTZ. Meanwhile, the Zone, with the guidance of both municipal and provincial government and the provincial Department of Commerce, continues to forge ahead with the application for the China (Haikou) Cross-Border E-Commerce Pilot Zone.
